John Hillman was hired by the Hoonah Indian Association in 2012. John is a long-time resident of Hoonah who was most recently employed by SEALASKA timber. John has extensive experience throughout the region in the engineering, logistics and people management skills necessary for regional-scale resource management and he is delighted to be back home in Hoonah to apply this knowledge at the community scale. John’s current list of priority projects target community economic development through sustainable natural resource management. Projects include: Oyster Farming, workforce development for silviculture, fisheries and road maintenance, developing a community-scale biomass heating opportunity, wild blueberry harvest, processing and marketing and hydroelectrical power project development.
