Haa Kusteeyí Nephew Application

The Haa Kusteeyí program is a year-long, compensated mentorship aimed at supporting young Native men in strengthening their cultural identity, learning traditional subsistence culture, and developing as community leaders. This mentorship includes a 12-day cultural training, monthly one-on-one mentorship with a local “Uncle” mentor, and four field intensives focusing on subsistence activities such as hunting, fishing, and plant harvesting and processing of those harvested foods.
At the conclusion of the mentorship, there will be a final secondary nine day session that will focus on gaining certificates in Hunter Education, Boating Safety, First Aid & CPR, and Food Handling & Safety as well as creating a piece of warrior armor, a significant cultural project.
This program serves young Native men from the following Southeast Alaska communities:
– Juneau
– Hoonah
– Angoon
– Sitka
– Haines/Klukwan
– Kake
– Hydaburg
This application is for young Native men ages 16-22 who are interested in participating in this year-long mentorship program.
