Regional Geoscience Monitoring Specialist

The Regional Geoscience Specialist (monitoring) assists in developing local capacity for precipitation monitoring that warns the community of hazards associated with extreme precipitation by connecting communities throughout SE Alaska to a team of research scientists. A can-do attitude and willingness to pitch in where needed are essential to the specialist’s success. This project requires local citizens to partner with scientists to co-produce warning systems, the Regional Science Coordinator’s role as a liaison is critical to its success. The Regional Geoscience monitoring specialist will work directly with “community connectors” who are community members based at tribal and government entities in the participating communities and communicate information between these “community connectors”, community members, the project manager, and the technical members of the project team. Additionally, the position provides field and technical support to project partners such as maintenance on high elevation weather stations
