Hydaburg is a community of 398 residents located on the west coast of Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska, 45 miles northwest of Ketchikan. It lies 36 road miles west of Hollis.

Hydaburg has both a city government and a tribal government.  The tribal government operates most community programs at this time.  The tribe has a clear vision for the community.  The vision is based on building pride in the community and Haida values; capacity to be responsible for the resources upon which the community depends; and employment opportunities in jobs that will ensure that the community is healthy and vibrant.  In the recent past, the local economy has been based upon commercial fishing and long-shoring.  Both of these economic drivers has been declining due to the migration of commercial fishing permits out of the community and the wind down of logging on regional and village corporation land.
