Cradled by steep mountains on both sides, Pelican is a small fishing village with around 75 residents. Established as a salmon cannery town and cold storage so fishermen wouldn’t have to travel all the way to Sitka to get their haul processed and on ice, it still proudly boasts its slogan “Closest to the fish!” Pelican is well-known for its one mile boardwalk, Salmon Way, which links most residences and businesses in and around the small-boat harbor.
