Competitions Overview

Residents of Hoonah and Kake can download the Gather Southeast App and then use the app to create a Gather Southeast account so we can keep track of what you have reported. Once you have created an account, it may take a day or two to get you approved to download your local community maps. This process of getting approved for map access is a lot easier for us if you provide your full name, email and zip code when you create your Gather Southeast account. You do not need to download the maps to start using the app to record your harvests or stewardship activities, however, we hope that once you download the maps you can use them to find new places to harvest.

Once you have access to the maps and have downloaded them, you are ready to head out and use those maps, and the forms build into the app to find, gather and record your entries for the competitions.

Over $5,000 in Prizes available!

August 15 – September 15 Competition Rules

For August and early September, we are going to run two competitions in each community: Salmon & Berries.

We have three ways to win for each competition: Raffle, Diversity and Pints to Elders.

  • All Competitions: The primary way you will get credit for your entry is by using photo documentation. If you do not include a photo of your fish, bag of berries, etc. you will not get credit for that entry in the competition. Do not forget to include a photo!
  • All Competitions: The app will record the location of where you made your harvest or recorded your stewardship activity but that location will not be made public unless you choose to make it public. The unique location of each record will be corroborated with the photo documentation to make your record official.
  • Raffle Competition: The raffle will be won by a random selection from all the reports submitted for the competition. The more reports you have in the system, the better your chances to win the raffle. In order to improve your odds of winning the raffle, we recommend that you create a unique report for each individual batch of berries, fish or game animal taken. For berries, the minimum collection amount is 1/2 gallon to count. You can include different kinds of berries in a single bag and report but be sure to indicate what portions come for each species so you get credit for the diversity competition too. Watch this tutorial video to see what we mean. If necessary, you can combine multiple picking sessions into a single record so you have the 1/2 gallon necessary to qualify. Do not forget to photo document your berry entries, preferably in a 1 gallon ziploc or 5 gallon bucket or some other clearly recognizable container with a known volume.
  • Diversity Competition: This one is pretty straight forward, photo document each unique species of salmon or berry that you have harvested. The first person to record the maximum number of species available in the app will win this competition. The minimum picking quantity for this competition is 1 cup. You must include a photo of at least 1 cup for each species recorded.
  • Pints to Elders Competition: For winning the pints delivered to the elders competition, we want to see a photo of the stack of jars with the elder who is recieving them in the photo too. Record the number of jars where you would record the number of fish in the form, then be sure to photo document the pints with the elder and type the word “Pints” in the notes section of the form.

Competition Dashboards

We have created dashboards so you can see who the leaders are in each competition. Dashboards will be published as soon as we have enough folks participating.
